Lush using Vodat's broadband network to boost customer throughput
Lush, the fresh hand made retail cosmetics retailer, has implemented a new managed broadband network across its 89 stores in the UK and Eire, in a bid to reduce customer wait-time at the checkout. The managed network has been provided by Vodat International, the leading UK communications solution provider to the retail industry.
Lush will use the broadband network to dramatically cut the wait for credit card transactions to be authorised. As Chris Risbey, retail systems manager for Lush said, "Serving customers quickly is a major priority and is particularly important to us at Christmas, our busiest time of year."
Some time ago Lush invested in a private ADSL wide area network but this failed to give them the flexibility and throughput times that they required, and with the onset of PCI compliance requirements for such transaction processing the demise of this initial network was sealed. With the managed private broadband network provided by Vodat International that includes full PCI compliance, Lush decided to make the move to Internet credit card processing, now that the right solution had become affordable and secure. Risbey adds, "This is only the start of our drive to enhance the customer experience and improve efficiency of operation within our business. We want to add voice over IP to the new network and expect that to lead to significant cost savings on calls between stores and our factory."
In time, Lush will move more mission-critical applications onto the network. With the help of Vodat International they are looking at better ways to deliver information to stores instead of using fax and phone calls, for example by using Vodat's Store Communicator package for messaging, workflow and intranet delivery to stores.
