Telephone lines – PSTN
Whether you need new telephone lines, would like to migrate existing lines from another provider, or rationalise the lines you already have, Vodat’s public switched telephone network (PSTN) provisioning team can take care of the complete process.
Being a virtual network operator, we are not bound to any one provider. This allows us to get the best rates and pass the cost benefits to our customers. Provisioned as part of a data network, Vodat’s managed service offers a one-stop point of contact for all your PSTN service requirements.
What is PSTN?
PSTN is the term given to the world’s circuit-switched, voice-oriented telephone networks that are operated by telecommunications companies and governments around the world. PSTN networks are purpose-built to deliver telecommunications. As a result, PSTN lines deliver excellent audio quality, are extremely reliable, offer exceptional security and are able to support large volumes of traffic.
PSTN works by using circuit switching to enable users to make landline telephone calls to one another. These telephone calls are routed through multiple switches, which are often found in a central office (CO) or in a wire centre, enabling analogue voice data to travel over the connected copper wire phone lines.
Future of PSTN
BT Openreach has announced that it plans to switch off their existing PSTN (and ISDN) network by 2025, moving to a single IP network instead.
